Counseling Corner: Grade 10 Course Selection Process / Transitioning to High School

Hello Grade 9 Families,

As many of you are aware we have started having conversations about the Grade 10 course selection process here at school. I have been to each of the grade 9 homeroom classes to present information about this process and share the course selection sheet(s) with students. Students have three paths they can choose in grade 10. They may choose to do the International Baccalaureate Program (Prince Andrew high School), the Options and Opportunities Program (Dartmouth High School), or the regular Public School Program (Dartmouth High School). My website (link provided below) has additional information about each of these programs.

At this point in the process, students have had some time to think about the information provided and are beginning to narrow down which courses interest them. Over the coming weeks I will be meeting with students in small groups or individually, to make their course selections.  Once the course selection process is complete, you will receive a course verification sheet outlining your child's selections.  If any changes need to be made you can indicate this on their form and I will make the appropriate changes.

This can be both an exciting and sometimes stressful time for your child, but please know that I am here to assist them throughout this process.   If you or your child have any questions, please reach out to me by phone or email at: kross@hrce.ca or (902)464-2094 ext. 3101003.
